Symptoms and treatment of Aortic aneurysm
Description
An aortic aneurysm is a bulge that occurs in the wall of the main artery of the body, called the aorta. The aorta carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body. Aortic aneurysms can occur anywhere in the aorta. Can be in the form of a tube or round.
Aortic aneurysms are:
- Aneurysm of the Abdominal aorta. This type occurs along the part of the aorta that passes through the belly area.
- Aneurysm of the thoracic aorta. This type occurs along the part of the aorta that passes through the chest cavity.
Some people may have both types of aneurysms of the aorta.
An aneurysm of the aorta increases the risk of a tear in the inner layer of the wall of the aorta. This wear is called an aortic dissection .
